First Things First
3-Minute Devotional on Seeking the Kingdom of God
🌿Scripture:
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
— Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
Devotional:
For years, I didn’t understand what it meant to “seek first the kingdom of God.” Was it about going to church? Doing religious things? Was it seaching the gifts of the Spirit? Giving something up?
Jesus said these words in the middle of teaching about worry—about food, clothing, the needs of life. His answer wasn’t just “stop worrying”—He offered a better focus: Seek first God's kingdom.
But what is that kingdom?
Paul later wrote:
“The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)
The kingdom is not physical stuff. It’s God’s reign in our hearts. It’s where His will is done, and where His Spirit rules. To seek it is to desire what He desires: for us to walk in His righteousness, experience His peace, and be filled with His joy.
It’s putting God first—before money, before fear, before comfort. And the beauty is, when we do, Jesus says, “all these things”—our daily needs—“will be added to you.”
Heart Prompt:
What are you seeking first today—God’s kingdom, or your own survival and success?
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, I’ve often chased the wrong things. Teach me to seek Your kingdom first—to desire Your will, Your presence, and Your peace above all else. Rule in me today.
